Mary, Did You Know? – Pentatonix

Pentatonix

More and more people are hearing about the Acapella singing group, Pentatonix.

If you haven’t heard of them, turn on a radio during the Christmas season and you will!

They have a varied repertoire but right now its all about their Christmas album and the feature song, Mary Did You Know?

If you’re interested in a little more about them, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Pentatonix formed in 2011 and came to prominence the same year by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony.[4][5] Their debut EP PTX, Volume 1 was released in 2012, followed by PTXmas the same year, with their third release, PTX, Vol. II, debuting at number 1 on Billboards Independent Albums chart in 2013. 2014 saw the release of PTX, Vol. III, and their two first full-length albums, PTX, Vols. 1 & 2 (a compilation of Vol. 1 and Vol. II) and That’s Christmas to Me. They have sold over 500,000 records.[1]

Pentatonix started their popular YouTube channel back in 2012 to promote themselves after the Sing-Off (Season 3, 2011) when they were dropped by their record label, according to a recent November 2014 interview.[6] They also made effective use of social media to interact with their fan base.[7] Having eclipsed 6.7 million subscribers and more than 670 million cumulative views, the PTXofficial YouTube page is currently the 13th most subscribed-to music channel (as of 26 November 2014). Their music video for “Daft Punk” recently surpassed 103 million views.[8][9]

Now here is Mary Did You Know?  It has 16.5 million views in three weeks!

Well what did you think of their embellishment of the Acapella by instrument-like utterances instead of any kind of actual instrument. I found it fascinating and unique.
