Cathedral of Orvieto, Italy: Signorelli’s Masterpiece

Orvieto Cathedral 3 by randomoutrageous.blogspot.com

Introduction to Cathedral of Orvieto

It’s been a while since I have posted about a cathedral.  The main reason is that I am having increasing difficulty finding a suitably great/famous cathedral and a good, narrated HD video tour of it.

Here is a cathedral that passed my tests and has impressive artistic features that make it unique.

The Cathedral at Orvieto, Italy, not far from Florence, was begun in the final decade of the 13th century and continued for almost 400 years in various stages.

Rick Steves, famous tour guide and guidebook author specializing in Europe shows us and tells us the story of Cathedral Orvieto in an HD video.

You can also get quite a bit of detail and several high-quality images at the Wikipedia link below.

The artistic component of the cathedral is the work of Luca Signorelli.  It has been said that his work formed the basis of Michelangelo’s work as well.

Etc.

So, next time you are in central Italy, be sure to schedule some time to explore Orvieto and its famous cathedral.
