On Safari in Tanzania Part 6 -Serengeti National Park

Affectionate Hippos

After completing our observation and purchasing at the Maasai Boma marketplace we headed on southward to the northern edge of the Serengeti National Park.  Our guides told us that this would be the real beginning of wildlife sighting.  This really excited us since we all thought we had seen a lot already.

We would be staying two nights in our second campsite called the Thomson Serengeti Nyumba at Kogakuria.  This site was a bit more refined than our first one but provided the same high quality of meals and comfortable (deluxe) tenting.

Here is a YouTube slideshow of the wildlife we saw just during the time we were traveling from the Boma to our new campsite – a matter of about half a day, including numerous animal sighting and photography stops and the following day and a half.  This was a huge ramp up in wildlife viewing, just as Harrison our guide had promised.

On our first full day in the park we saw more animals than any of us thought even existed – mostly in terms of sheer numbers – but also a pretty wide variety of species.

We also got some pretty good video footage (after considerable editing!) so take a look.
