The Carol Burnett Show – Ready for a Laugh?
Remember the Carol Burnett Show? There’s a lot of great material from her shows appearing on YouTube. Since this was back in the before-HD-days, the quality isn’t as good as you would like BUT the material is a scream.
On another old clip Carol explained that each of her shows was taped before a live studio audience – twice in the same day. The idea was that the first take was to be serious and stick to the script. If anything went wrong the second taping could fix it – especially the part that was flagged by the director as needing more work. Well, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman (and eventually, the whole cast) couldn’t resist the temptation to break each other up even in the first taping. Carol said that the first taping almost always was the one shown on live TV since the improv scenes, like this one, were much funnier.
