16-year-old Marlana VanHoose, who sang the National Anthem before the UK vs Ole Miss women’s game on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012.

The Johnson Central student, who is blind and was born with Cytomegalovirus and subsequently diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of two, got a visit at midcourt from UK Women’s Head Coach Matthew Mitchell before the game.

“It was really moving,” he said. “I told her before tip off, it really brought tears to my eyes. It was the best performance we’ve ever had here at Memorial Coliseum. What an unbelievable voice on a little bitty girl like that.”

The video has attracted 787,000 views.

Marlana has not been shy about sharing her musical gift and her Christian faith publicly.

She has sung at NCAA and NBA games, NASCAR races, been featured on CBS Evening News and the Huffington Post and performed at gospel music events.

About her blindness and/or her faith, she says on her website:

Marlana has invited Jesus into her heart and has been baptized. She loves God very much and says she has no need to see here on earth. She knows that when she gets to Heaven, Jesus will be the first face she’ll see.
