David Belisle – Coach of the Year in Little League? He Gets my Vote!
The Bad
I’ve seen Little League coaches holler, kick dirt, swear, and lots of other bad example actions to be teaching (knowingly or unknowingly) young boys.
As the father of four daughters who played recreational sports like softball, soccer, basketball and track, I’ve also heard some bad things and seen some bad coaching behavior.
Haven’t you?
Did you like what you saw and heard?
I didn’t.
The Good
Now I want to make a claim… one I can’t objectively prove… but one I believe.
I believe the VAST majority of organized team sports for young people are led by great role models who sacrifice a lot of their own time and talent to provide their young competitors a chance to learn good life lessons while enjoying themselves.
The video and the speech it contains are wonderful examples of a pattern repeated countless times by losing coaches and, with a slightly different slant, from winning coaches, too.
I hope your 3 minutes watching how its done right motivates you as it has motivated me to thank the good coaches your/my children and grandchildren have benefited from as they participated in sports.
Maybe the video will even motivate you to volunteer to be one of these character-building coaches yourself.
What better way to multiply your influence in the world. Just be sure your influence is like Dave Belisle.
