Spiritual Practices Common to Kids Who Flourish As Adults
How Much Can a Consistent Pattern of Spiritual Practices Help Our Children?
As Christian parents, we naturally want to follow a set of family spiritual practices to raise our children to flourish spiritually as they grow and reach the stage of independently making their own choices.
We make our choices of how to “train up” our children as best we can and then prayerfully leave the rest up to God to form a solid faith base in our children.
Are we doing the things that are most important and effective? Are there guides to help in this process?
There are many sources and many resources available to help. Here is one that has some research about the spiritual practices that were present in the lives and families of 2000 children. The study by Lifeway Research of 18 to 30-year-olds sheds light on how different kinds of spiritual practices during their younger years played a role in their adult spiritual lives.
The story is effectively told in an article by Trevin Wax, Director for Bibles and Reference at LifeWay Christian Resources and a visiting professor at Wheaton College. The article appeared on The Gospel Coalition website at:
A Great Example
I found the featured image of this post and a website with an excellent example of one of the family spiritual practices that contribute to a lasting-into-adult active faith. It’s called Sixty-Six: A Bible Reading Plan for Kids of All Ages.
