Choosing The Best Schooling Option for Your Child – Why I Created a (Free) Course About It

The Schooling Problem(s)

I have seen an increase of interest and concern about the public schooling system in our country over the past several years. Have you noticed?

Local Concerns

If you watch your local news on TV regularly, I'll bet you see segments about schools more than once a week during the school year. Some topics are: 

• School budgets,
• Teachers salaries,
• School Board meetings, especially if something controversial is on the agenda, 
• Other matters of local interest.

Wider Concerns

Less frequently, there are stories about longer term problems of wider concern such as:

•  Curriculum books "rewriting history" 
• Discipline lapses and violence in the classrooms and elsewhere in and around the schools
• Drugs in and around the schools have increased markedly over time
• Disparities in inner city educational opportunities and low graduation rates point to    underlying socio-economic problems deeper than education
• Comparative declines of the U.S. academic rankings with other nations' educational systems are the basis for urging changes in our schooling system to maintain or enhance our "global competitiveness"

My Biggest Concerns

These concerns are all valid and important ones. As a Christian parent, grandparent and recent great grandparent myself, however, I have further and equally if not greater concerns:

•  Secularization or "taking God and Prayer out of the schools"
• Arguably an actual bias against the Christian (and Jewish) religions and toward the Islamic faith
• A handful of Freedom From God and similar activists should not be able to pressure our public officials and even our courts into dumbing down the presence of Judeo-Christian beliefs and values by the majority of society into de facto atheism 
• The collective efforts to achieve a reasonable balance in these conflicting views have failed to do so thus far

So, what should I do...what can I do?

As a blogger, and digital media enthusiast, I decided to develop a free course targeted at Christian parents (and even concerned nonChristian parents) of school age children to educate them about the increasing number and kinds of schooling options that exist today. Parents really need to be aware of the reasons why it is more important that ever before to learn about these options and weigh them carefully into family values and priorities and , perhaps, choose an alternative to the current local school to educate their child(ren).
