Ways To Raise Your Kids To Be Contributors
Are You Predominantly a Contributor or a Consumer?
The answer to this question by a parent forms the most powerful influence that you pass on to your children. Gulp!
In today's two working parent homes it is much more difficult than a couple of generations ago to set the example for our children that we want for them. We want them to be kind, outgoing and helpful to others and to be contributors to the good of their world. Today, however, their world is much more electronic and self directed than when they were in daily contact with mom (or dad) throughout the day or after school.
In this world of today parents must be more intentional than ever in establishing their own patterns of contributor/consumer behavior.
Where can a conscientious parent go for practical advice and examples of parenting contributor oriented kids?
Focus on the Family Website
Focus on the Family is one of the most visited and trusted sources of all kinds of parenting and other related family advice and even entertainment (with a constructive inclination}. It is a Christian organization but its scope and appeal are wider than spirituality. It covers many areas of family life and character formation as well as dealing problem areas when family situations get off the right track.
Here is a link to a recent article by Carol Cuppy of Focus on the Family that addresses the question of how to raise kids who are predominantly contributors to their world, and ours, not predominantly consumers of what the world offers them.

Francis Chan - Parent, Evangelist, Pastor, Church Planter.
Here is another important source of parenting advice that I found and posted about. It has a great video that shows intentional parenting in real life family situations. The fruit of being raised in the Francis and Lisa Chan family is now evident as his two oldest daughters have married and joined in ministry.
