The Inspirational Saluting Boy on Omaha Beach
This is a truly inspirational remembrance of the cost of freedom started by a young boy and his father a year before the events you will see in the video that has gone viral worldwide ever since it appeared in July 2014.
This is how it all began… an excerpt from Blog Bio Page
My name is Richie. I am 12 years old. In 2013 my father and I started Project Vigil, a personal remembrance project dedicated to the memory of American soldiers killed in the D-Day invasion of World War II.
In 2014, during the week of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, my father and I spent four days in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, where I taught people about three paratroopers who are buried there.
And there are also more recent remembrance projects and special events that have involved Richie. The first is a blog in which Richie promises to remember fallen soldiers whose loved ones have sent personal background information to him for publication.

Project Vigil, I promise to remember
But the thing that sent this young boy’s remembrance all over the world was what he did on Omaha Beach as documented by a video assembled by his Dad.
Watch and be inspired.

On June 6th, 2014, my 11-year-old son wanted to say thank you to the soldiers who fought and died on Omaha beach on D-Day morning 70 years earlier. This is how he did it.
Wow! Imagine all this from an 11-year-old boy.
The most recent event is the Honorary Membership of 14-year-old, tall and handsome Richie into in the 506th Infantry Regiment. This special recognition ceremony took place on August 2, 2017, and is covered in a blog post at the blog link http://www.projectvigil.com/blog.
The post is pretty comprehensive in text and photos and also features this 16-minute video of the ceremony at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
What makes a Leader?
Leadership is a funny thing. It has no minimum age or scholarship requirements.
In the Bible, it says in Isaiah 11:6 “a little child shall lead them” (NIV)
Young Joan of Arc was a heroine of the French Revolution showing leadership far beyond her teen years.
And now we have a patriot, recognized worldwide, Richie, whose acts of leadership and patriotism far exceed our expectations from a 12 – 13-year-old schoolboy.
Could you or your child have these same qualities locked away inside?
Could I?
If there is any hint of them, they should be nurtured as Richie’s were by his Dad.
We need all the genuine leadership and leaders we can get.
Etc.
