Easter Celebration in Triumphant Song
This is an updated version of an earlier post. The triumphant music of the victory of Jesus Christ over the grave is expressed in different ways around the world. Here are four different ways that feature high quality video as well as impressive audio presentations.
I wanted to have an Easter Sunday post that reflects some of the flavors of the church services that I have attended on Easter Sunday over the years. Unfortunately, there isn’t any quality video available that gives the sounds and the “feel” of the services I remember.
So, I decided to look for some powerful choral performances of Easter music and also to add some “alternative” but powerful and inspiring Easter musical experiences.
I arrived at four pieces which I will introduce individually.
I wish I could have found some quality audio/video in other settings and traditions.
First is a traditional and triumphant celebration of praise and worship to the risen Christ.
The British Royal Choral Society has performed Handel’s Messiah on Good Friday at the Royal Albert Hall every year since 1878.
The RCS filmed their performance on 6 April 2012 by kind permission of the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
This clip features the glorious Hallelujah Chorus.
Next is a newer worship song popular with younger audiences. No matter your age, however, I think you’ll sense the power of the song – In Christ Alone.
The venue is the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA and the event is Passion 2013. This event drew about 60,000 college-age young people from dozens of countries. The Passion organization is designed to evangelize college students worldwide. The soloist is Kristian Stanfill.
Next is a traditional Easter hymn, Christ the Lord is Risen Today performed by the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Last is a powerful song requiring a powerful voice and it is well provided by David Phelps and the Gaither Vocal Band singing He’s Alive.
I hope you found these Hymns/songs as inspiring as I have.
Happy Easter, and, as Christians in many lands say to one another on Easter Sunday:
He is Risen!
And the reply:
He is Risen indeed!
Etc.
