Hungry for Spring? World Famous Keukenhof Gardens Show it Best

What and Where are the Keukenhof Gardens?

There is nothing in the world like Spring at the World Famous Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands.

Here in the USA, especially the northern parts of the country, it is cold and snowy in February and March. Many of us yearn for the coming of Spring with warming temperatures and the rebirth of nature.

We grow flowers from bulbs that winter over and we look first for the early Spring bulbs like Snow Drops and Crocus to break through the cold ground and even the snow to give us a sneak peek at the hope of the coming season.

Most of our bulbs come from Holland and it is there that today’s video shows us the extent of the beauty of Spring at the World Famous Keukenhof Gardens.

 per Wikipedia

Keukenhof (“Kitchen garden”, Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkøːkə(n)ˌɦɔf]), also known as the Garden of Europe, is the world’s second largest flower garden following Dubai Miracle Garden.[1] It is situated in Lisse, the Netherlands. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually in the park, which covers an area of 32 hectares (79 acres).[2]

Keukenhof is located in South Holland in the small town of Lisse, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. It is accessible by bus from the train stations of Haarlem, Leiden and Schiphol. It is located in an area called the “Dune and Bulb Region” (Duin- en Bollenstreek).

Keukenhof is open annually from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather.

Take a High Definition Video tour and be amazed at this World Class tourist attraction. This year, 2023, the gardens open on March 23 and close on May 14. After the video tour, stay for a second educational video, The Story of Tulips, and learn all about the annual tulip cycle from planting to harvest.

The Video Story of Keukenhof Gardens

I wish I could be there to take a few hundred Hi-Rez photos. Don’t you?

I don’t know about you, but now I feel more like Spring!

Actually, I’m kind of kidding about that since my wife, Lynn, and I regularly walk around our central Florida community without a jacket.  We have recently seen some brand new baby alligators, lots of Azaleas, Gardenias and Camelias and Bird-of-Paradise blooming.  We also have the joy of petunias, snapdragons, pansies, dahlias, geraniums and begonias on our property and in bloom throughout the winter season.

Meanwhile, they were having a cold winter at our summer location in northern New York State reminding them that winter’s not over until mid-April.

Maybe I’ll see you some Spring day at Keukenhof Gardens.

The video runs about 16 minutes – all fascinating. If that’s too long for you, you can jump off anywhere and still have seen and learned a lot.
